Wheat Ridge Spec House
New Spec House
New spec home in Wheat Ridge, CO. The client requested a bucolic, traditional house that didnt seem as big as it was from the front of the house that overlooks a park. The design incorporates a single story at the front of the house, with a spall two story gable end to the north allowing the owner to capture the evening light and mountain views from the flex space on the second floor.

The design incorporates a single story at the front of the house that reads as a small cottage added to over time.

DESIGN: Rear | Southeast Perspective
The rear of the house incorporates a variation in roof lines and a small mud room separating the private outdoor space and primary outdoor living space.

The project takes full advantage of the allowed lot coverage to within 1 square foot.

DESIGN: First Floor Plan
The main floor incorporates an open living concept connecting the park to the West with the Back yard to the East.

DESIGN: Second Floor Plan
The second floor was designed as a retreat, with a large flex space overlooking the park to the west.

DESIGN: Roof Plan
The roof incorporates various slopes to simplify the roof form and comply with zoning. The single story portion allows extra height in the living room area.

DESIGN: Front | West Elevation
The front of the house incorporates a single-story portion to reduce mass, while a two-story gabled end on the north captures sweeping views of the park and mountains from the second floor.

DESIGN: Side | South Elevation
The front of the house looks like a small single story shingle cottage that has been added to over time.

DESIGN: Rear | East Elevation
The simple form of the rear of the house was broken up with a change in roof forms and materials, as well as a mudroom separating the communal and private outdoor spaces.

Second floor windows were removed from the north side to improve flexibility of the spaces and avoid vies into the neighbor's yard.
